xcelsa Gardens has something to offer that you won't find at your average nursery. Located on 15-acres in Loxahatchee, Excelsa owners Mark and Susan Friedrich pride themselves on providing a broad range of quality exotic and unusual plant varieties as well as the classic favorites.

The taste for unusual tropicals was acquired when Mark was an intern at Fairchild Tropical Garden in 1980. Since the nursery's establishment in 1990, the driving force has been on tropical plants that weren't typically cultivated and available in Florida.

Although we carry a large variety of available landscape material, our specialty lies in the locating, growing, and introducing those hard-to find plant varieties. Excelsa has become known as the place to go when you're looking for the unusual.

Picture this...

Heliconias and gingers blooming in brilliant color all around you. Bananas, alocasias, cordyline ti, specimen palms, ferns, calatheas, and bromeliads to name but a few of the exciting plant species you'll find at Excelsa.

We cater to landscape architects, landscape contractors, garden centers, theme parks, and zoos. Excelsa delivers throughout Florida and ships worldwide.

Excelsa Gardens has several signature plants that it has become well-known for. One of the most popular is its' namesake, the Rhapis excelsa Palm. Another favorite is Cyrtostachys renda, the red sealing wax palm with a bright-red trunk imported from Malaysia. In a container, this slow growing palm eventually reaches 12-feet in height and takes 15 to 20 years to mature. Everyone loves the look of this palm!!! We are also one of the largest growers of heliconias in south Florida, carrying numerous varieties.

Quality Plant Material

The nursery employs a variety of measures to ensure a top-quality plant, including using premium potting mixes, slow-release fertilizer, and drip irrigation. For maximum plant protection, the operation has both shade houses and heated greenhouses. We also use biocontrols to keep plant spraying to a minimum. These diligent approaches promote growing a better, stronger plant. Quality finished material only.

Customer Care and Education

A very important part of Excelsa's operation is focused on individual customer service. Even the most seasoned landscape architect or designer may never have had any experience with the type of plants Excelsa specializes in, a good amount of education goes along with their sales. We believe that people need to know how our plants can work in their designs, as well as how to care for them. Once customers are comfortable with this new material, they always come back for more.

Staying Informed

Mark stays on the cutting edge, through exhibiting at trade shows and by his involvement in trade organizations. He is also a member of such professional organizations as the Palm Beach Wholesale Growers Association and the Loxahatchee Area Nurserymens Association.

Looking ahead, Friedrich would like to expand Excelsa's customer base even further and try even more new varieties. Further facility expansion might also be a possibility for Excelsa in the future.
